THE Maccabi Cycling Club Championships were held recently, with 35 competitors across a range of age groups hitting the 11.2km track on Kew Boulevard for the individual time trial.
Father-son duo Russell (40 to 49 age group) and Brandon Glasser (under-15) both won their age categories, with Russell defending his overall championship win from last year in a time of 14.47 – 20 seconds slower than his previous winning ride.
“It was really exciting to see everyone get involved on the day,” club president Nick Orloff told The AJN.
“While there was only ever going to be one overall winner, and as hard as the favourites went for that title, all competitors put in amazing efforts in difficult and windy conditions.
“It’s an event like this that shows how strong the spirit and sense of belonging we have in the club is.”
Other winners included Charlie Rose (under-17), Ariel Golvan (under-19), Paul Kegen (20 to 29), Adam Carew (30 to 39), Deborah Bell (under-40), Michelle Szwarcberg (40 and over, as well as ladies overall winner) and Henry Lanzer (50 and over).
