Greens leader Adam Bandt has come under fire for calling on Israel to “end the Occupation” while ignoring last week’s terror attack in Jerusalem that killed two and injured more than 20.

“It’s the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People,” Bandt tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

“We reaffirm our & the UN’s calls to end the Occupation and end the human rights abuses.

“It’s time for justice for Palestinians.”

Replying to his post, the Zionist Federation of Australia Twitter account said, “When Israelis were murdered in a Palestinian terrorist attack a week ago, @AdamBandt was silent.

“It’s ironic that he posted this on the 75th anniversary of the @UN offering a two-state outcome. Zionists accepted. Palestinians and allies attempted a second Holocaust (but lost).”

Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin also lashed Bandt for his comments.

“It’s actually the anniversary of the international community endorsing two states for two peoples and the Palestinians and their backers responding with a devastating war that killed one per cent of Israelis and uprooted 850,000 Jews from the Middle East,” Ryvchin posted on social media.

“Justice requires truth.”

Last year, during Israel’s 11-day war with Hamas terrorists in Gaza, Bandt tweeted, “This is not a conflict between equals. It is the continuation of oppression, an occupation that makes it impossible for Palestinians or Israelis to ever live in peace and security.”

But in 2020, the Greens leader told The AJN it was “a furphy that the Greens do not support Israel”.

The Greens had their best ever result in May’s federal election, increasing their number of lower house MPs from one to four and adding three senators for a total of 12.
