What a wonderful re-entry onto the international aerobic gymnastics stage it was late last month for the Australian team – featuring Jewish Sydneysider Deborah Greenbaum – in Portugal.

Greenbaum, and her teammates Annabel Mutton and Olivia Feaver, grabbed the opportunity to represent their country overseas for the first time in almost three years, at the Cantanhede International Aerobic Gymnastics World Cup tournament.

The Aussie trio scored 19.014 to place 7th out of 12 in the preliminary round, and did even better in the final, with 19.535, to come 5th, fractionally ahead of Italy. Hungary came first, scoring 21.283.

Greenbaum – who also represents NSW in artistic gymnastics – is the reigning Australian aerobic gymnastics champion, and a longtime member of the Australian team.

Due to Gymnastics Australia not sending an aerobic gymnastics team to compete overseas during the first two years of the pandemic, Greenbaum had to bide her time before being able to wear the green and gold again.
