Hakoah dream back to life
"The best thing we can do is build our own club, for our own community, that will be the hub of our community," Lowy told The AJN in August.
The Hakoah White City Project remains on track after it was announced that a new builder has been assigned following the termination of the previous builder’s contract.
Hakoah Club president Steven Lowy told members that Richard Crookes Constructions (RCC) has signed an “early contractor involvement agreement” with a view to entering into a contract to complete the project as soon as possible.
“Over the next few months, they will complete site assessments and early works, plus forecast the cost and program to complete the project. We will provide an update at the Hakoah Club AGM on November 28,” said Lowy.
“This marks a significant step forward in our journey to bring the Hakoah dream back to life. With RCC on board, we believe we will realise our vision of a vibrant, thriving hub for our community – one that honours our past and looks boldly to the future.”
In May, Hakoah felt it was in the best interests of the club to find a new builder after being left disappointed by the progress of Parkview Constructions. The CFMEU then threatened to picket the Hakoah White City site with ostensibly pro-Palestinian activists in connection to the dispute between Hakoah Club and Parkview constructions.
NSW Premier Chris Minns said at the time that the “alleged attempt to inflame racial differences in our community to benefit in a contractual disagreement is completely outrageous”.
The reason for building the Hakoah Club has become more pertinent than ever given the tough times facing the Jewish community as antisemitic incidents continue to mount.
“The best thing we can do is build our own club, for our own community, that will be the hub of our community,” Lowy told The AJN in August.
