ALTHOUGH last year’s, and this year’s, NSW Futsal Premier League seasons were cancelled, Hakoah Futsal Club – the reigning men’s champions – remained active, participating in summer and winter competitions including the Southern Cross league, with the men’s team winning two trophies.

Club president Daniel Sharp said the club also got a great response to its renewed focus on building up its younger player base, doubling it in numbers over the past two years as a pathway to eventually creating a new Maccabi Futsal Club, which would then act as a feeder club to Hakoah.

Sharp confirmed that Hakoah’s boys’ and girls’ teams from U8s to U13s have entered a Football NSW-endorsed six-round weekly competition based at Marrickville that will start on Sunday, October 31 and feature Hakoah, the Mascot Vipers, Enfield, Quake, Mountain Majik and Sydney Futsal Club.

Hakoah’s boys’ U14s, U16s, U19s and men’s teams, and their girls’ U15s, U17s and women’s teams, will also play for six rounds from Saturday, October 30 based at Dural, featuring Hakoah, Quake, Dural and Mountain Majik.

“So it will be a busy time, with Maccabiah futsal trials coming up too, and several of our younger players have been accepted into a NSW squad formed to develop the next Australian Futsalroos team,” Sharp said.

“We’ve also been invited to represent Australia in tournaments in Chile next July and in Thailand next September, and Hakoah is the only NSW futsal club to have both a men’s team and a women’s team invited to play in the National Futsal Club Championships in January.”
