OUR SAY

Hate and hope

This was never about Israel, it wasn’t about Zionism, but of course we’ve known that for quite some time.

Reporting on yet another incident of Jew-hatred on our streets is not how we had hoped to mark our first edition of 2025, yet here we are. Again.

While we have depressingly seen our fair share of anti- Israel, anti-Zionist and antisemitic graffiti scrawled across private and public property over the last 15 months, the latest incident in Sydney’s eastern suburbs left precisely zero doubt as to who it was aimed at terrorising.

‘F**K THE JEWS’ etched on a private car, in a suburb heavily populated by Jews, with a number of Jewish institutions nearby. Explicit Jew-hatred.

This was never about Israel, it wasn’t about Zionism, but of course we’ve known that for quite some time.

Thankfully, we have friends who now know this too, and we are clinging onto the hope that we continue to gain more allies. After all, we have been told repeatedly that the silent majority do support us. Over the last few weeks, particularly during the public lighting of Chanukah candles, it has been comforting to hear a few more supporters find their voices, or simply turn up to events and rallies in a show of solidarity.

One of our fiercest friends features on the cover of this week’s edition. Erin Molan has emerged as a strong, unwavering voice of moral clarity and support. Her powerful monologues have gone viral and she was treated like royalty – no less than she deserves – during her first trip to Israel at the end of last year. She has been warmly swept up by the Australian Jewish community as we recognise, and are eternally grateful for, the immense sacrifice she has made to stand up for the truth.

Molan told The AJN this week that her late father, Senator Jim Molan, had the greatest moral compass of anyone she’s known. Well, it’s clear in this instance that the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree.

Molan’s voice has been a light, and in that light we can see glimpses of hope.

We wish our readers a happy and safe 2025. We continue to pray for the release of our hostages and for peace between Israel and its neighbours.
