Hate graffiti on Jewish MP’s poster

ANTI-Semitic graffiti was found last week on an election campaign sign for Jewish Labor MP for Heffron, Ron Hoenig.

The poster – which had been defaced with a Star of David and a Hitler moustache – was discovered by campaign staff at the corner of Gardeners Road and Racecourse Place in Eastlakes last Thursday.

Hoenig told The AJN: “In modern-day Australia, anti-Semitic attacks are disappointingly far too common.

“These attacks are not reflective of the community I know and love. They are the actions of a minority.”

NSW Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Vic Alhadeff commented: “Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident.

“While these are the actions of a small minority, it once again highlights the need for vigilance against racist behaviour.”

The sign was taken down after it was discovered and police have been notified.

Inspector David Cattell of Mascot Police told The AJN it is not the first time Hoenig has been targeted.

“This has been an ongoing issue for some time … We do have a person we think may be involved, but unfortunately we have no evidence to prove involvement,” he said.

“We’ll keep looking into it and obviously keep an eye on future boards they have up. If anyone is caught they will be arrested.”
