Yossi Meyer, a longstanding Sydney Hatzolah volunteer and a clinical volunteer with NSW Ambulance since 2018, was recently flying home from New York when a fellow passenger began experiencing chest pains and breathlessness about six hours out from landing in Sydney.

Meyer jumped into action, using his skills and experience with NSW Ambulance to treat and monitor the passenger, who was then assessed by paramedics on arrival.

“Thank you, NSW Ambulance, for the invaluable training which empowered me to save a person’s life 30,000 feet above the ground,” Meyer said.

He is the second Sydney Hatzolah medic to provide help to a fellow passenger in the last month, the first being president Rabbi Mendy Litzman, who saved a passenger’s life on a flight from New York to Johannesburg.

Hatzolah has more than 350 clinical volunteers in 60 locations across NSW, providing important initial care before paramedics arrive.
