Hemed scores first goal for Wanderers
ISRAELI striker Tomer Hemed scored the first goal for his new club, the Western Sydney Wanderers, in their 2-2 A-League Men round two draw with the Newcastle Jets at CommBank Stadium on November 28.
After a scrappy first half by the men in red and black, and with the score at 1-1, Hemed darted forward to mark a Newcastle defender, and the resulting pressure led to Hemed stealing possession close to Newcastle’s goal.
He seized the moment, firing a shot past the keeper.
But the Wanderers’ 2-1 lead only lasted three minutes, as the Jets equalised through Olivier Boumal in the 52nd minute.
It was the second draw in a row for Western Sydney.
The Wanderers will take on Hemed’s former club, Wellington Phoenix, on December 3 from 7.45pm in Wollongong.
