Heroes in our midst

UNDER the watchful eye of General Sir John Monash, two contemporary heroes were honoured last week – the very first winners of The AJN Community Hero of the Year awards.

Nominated by our readers, Jack Klarnet (left) from Sydney picked up the NSW accolade, recognised for donating a kidney to his son’s father-in-law, while Josh Aisen (right), from Melbourne, collected the Victorian trophy on behalf of his father Shaun, who was acknowledged for flying sick Australians living in rural areas to city hospitals.

The awards, run in conjunction with the Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV) and NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, were presented by AJN national editor Zeddy Lawrence at the JCCV Community Recognition Awards ceremony on Thursday.
