FORGET Adam being crowned king of the kitchen in MasterChef. Another winner stepped into the spotlight this week … Shannon Gaitz who won first place in The AJN‘s Ghetto Blasterz competition.
As part of her prize, the 17-year-old from Bondi, who won the battle of the bands with her song I need me to be, will now perform on stage at the Shir Madness Jewish music festival in Sydney on August 15.
The Moriah College student will also spend a day laying down tracks in a professional recording studio.
The competition saw entrants’ videos posted on The AJN website, with the public having the chance to select their favourite. A judging panel faced the tough task of selecting the overall winner from the five most popular acts.
Philip Feinstein from the Shir Madness organising committee said choosing the winner from the five fantastic acts was far from easy.
“We felt that Shannon Gaitz has the charisma to deliver her type of music in an inspiring way; we think she will go a long way and hopefully her winning the Ghetto Blasterz competition will help her move forward to greater heights. She is truly an awesome singer.”
Shannon herself was thrilled to take the top spot. “I’m very excited to play at Shir Madness. This is the biggest thing I’ve done in music”, she said.
Shir Madness is at Bondi Pavilion on Sunday, August 15.
