Homing pigeons for Gilad Shalit
JERUSALEM — Mayor Nir Barkat, together with Jewish and Arab children, came together at the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem on December 16 to release homing pigeons to symbolise the future homecoming of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
As of that date, Shalit, has been held captive by Hamas for 1270 days.
The fate of Shalit, who was captured by a group of Palestinian terrorists who infiltrated his IDF army camp on the Gaza border, is unclear as neither Hamas nor the Israeli government is saying exactly what would be acceptable for Shalit’s release.
Shalit is not forgotten and various public demonstrations keep Shalit firmly in the minds and hearts of the Israeli public.
