THE “Happiest man on Earth”, the late Eddie Jaku was posthumously inducted onto the 2022 Multicultural Honour Roll at the NSW Premier’s Harmony Dinner on Tuesday night for his lifelong work in the Jewish community.

“Eddie was a true champion of multiculturalism in NSW, and we could not think of a more deserving recipient for this prestigious honour,” NSW Jewish Board of Deputies CEO Darren Bark, who nominated Jaku for the honour, said.

“Through his decades of work with the Sydney Jewish Museum, his public speaking engagements and his best-selling book, Eddie touched innumerable lives around the world with his message of hope and courage in the face of adversity.

“He shared how he found gratitude and kindness in the darkest of places, and vowed to smile every day. NSW is today smiling, as we acknowledge the immense contribution of our much-loved friend Eddie.”

Noting that “Dad was never one to be in the background”, son Michael Jaku said he “would have been thrilled” with the honour.

“Our whole family is incredulous at the profound effect that my father had on so many people literally all over the world. The messages that he communicated resonated with people from all walks of life, especially in these unsettling times,” he said.

“We are grateful to NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet, Multicultural Minister Mark Coure and Multicultural NSW for selecting him, and to the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies for its nomination.

“We miss him dearly.”
