Zali Steggall: ‘I do not allocate preferences’
Steggall has a “very positive” relationship with Cremorne Synagogue.
Since being elected as the Warringah MP in 2019, Zali Steggall is most proud of “providing strong, community-led representation”, playing a key role in “shaping and passing” the Climate Change Act 2022 and helping to secure more than $300 million in federal funding for Warringah.
Steggall said to tackle rising living costs, “We need to incentivise electrification to reduce power bills, simplify taxes for small businesses, and provide more accessible and efficient housing options.
“We must [also] strive for a minimum 75 per cent emissions reduction target by 2035.”
Steggall has a “very positive” relationship with Cremorne Synagogue and Rabbi Mendel Slavin, and attended the shule’s recent Anzac Day service.
“Antisemitism has no place in our country and everyone has the right to religious freedom,” she said.
“Last year I, alongside the crossbench, wrote to the Prime Minister, demanding an urgent judicial inquiry into antisemitism at Australian universities and I have supported the government’s recent hate speech laws.”
Steggall confirmed that, “As a community independent, I do not allocate preferences.”
She continues to call for the immediate release of all remaining Israeli hostages and is “aware of the serious concerns that have been raised regarding UNRWA’s independence”, but added, “In the absence of viable alternatives, UNRWA remains a critical lifeline for aid in Gaza.”
