In the spirit of Private Sher
THE Victorian Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women (VAJEX) has presented the inaugural Private Gregory Sher Memorial Award to two youngsters from the United Jewish Education Board (UJEB).
Selected by their teachers, both year 6 students showed academic achievement in their UJEB classes and displayed a “menschlach” attitude.
The awards were presented to Benji Batten of Caulfield Junior College and Elli Aleksenitser of Gardenvale Primary School.
“UJEB is extremely pleased to be given the opportunity to honour Greg Sher and to be involved in this award along with VAJEX. The two students have been all the way through UJEB classes, from prep through grade 6, and are extremely deserving of this honour,” general manager Deon Kamien said.
The duo was presented with a certificate and a badge, and their names were engraved onto a shield to be displayed in the UJEB office.
