Limmud in Your Lounge has been brought back this year after it was first successfully run in 2018. The aim is to facilitate members of the community to learn and connect with each other in a more intimate setting.

Limmud in Your Lounge is a series of thought-provoking and inspiring conversations about Jewish ideas and culture taking place in homes across Sydney over the June long weekend, from June 10-12.

Each session takes place in community members’ private lounge rooms, facilitating people to meet and reconnect with each other face to face, while presenters are a diverse range of local Australian Jewish talent.

As usual, a range of topics will be covered, such as “Solving the mystery of ancient Jewish theatre: a strange intersection of arts, religion and politics”; “How to be funny on the internet: Jewish humour in a world of memes”; “Finding your voice on the Voice”; “Modern love and Jewish passions”; and “What on earth is going on in Israel?” Legal scholar Kim Rubenstein will present an explainer on how to make sense of the debate over judicial reform, and she will host a Q&A about the controversial topic.

There is even a DIY challah-cover making workshop for children and parents. Limmud (from the Hebrew word meaning ‘to learn’) was originally a conference in the UK for Jewish educators. It evolved over the years into a community gathering of Jewish learning, and has grown into a large international organisation based in over 40 countries and almost 100 communities worldwide.

Limmud is not affiliated with any strand of Judaism and is fundamentally a space for anyone interested in Jewish learning. It is also a place for community, discovery, empowerment, diversity, debate, laughing, dancing, families and volunteering.

Limmud is powered by volunteers – the hosts, presenters and organising committee are all volunteers. To find out more about Limmud Oz Sydney, Limmud in Your Lounge or to get involved, visit limmudoz.org.au/tickets.
