Israel won seven medals, including two golds, at last week’s 2022 Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships, held in Tel Aviv.

Daria Atamanov, who is just 16, got Israel off to the best possible start by winning all-around gold on day one, with an unbeatable combined score of 136.900, defeating runner-up Boryana Kaleyn of Bulgaria.

“I’m in a bit of shock – it’s so exciting and fun,” Atamanov said at the medal presentation ceremony.

She went on to win three silvers the following day, in the apparatus finals for hoop, clubs and ribbon, to cap off an amazing tournament.

Atamanov is seen in Israel as a potential successor to Linoy Ashram, 23, who decided to retire earlier this year, having won a gold medal at last year’s Tokyo Olympics.

Ashram is now part of the team’s coaching staff.

Israel’s second gold medal was won in the group all-around event, scoring 69.950 to edge Italy by just 0.300 of a point.

The team followed up by winning silver in the hoop final.

And on the final day, Adi Katz won bronze for Israel in ribbon.
