WIZO Victoria is thrilled to announce that Sharri Markson, renowned Sky News Australia anchor and investigative journalist, will be the keynote speaker at WIZO Victoria’s gala this year.

Markson’s program leads Sky News’ weekday prime-time line-up, delivering captivating political news and thought-provoking stories. Since 2018, the political and investigative journalist has hosted her own show on Sky News, Sharri, which previously aired on Sundays and as of February 2023 airs at 5pm AEST Monday to Thursday.

With extensive experience at The Daily Telegraph and The Australian, Markson has gained global recognition for her investigative and news-breaking journalism on the origins of COVID-19.

Her ground-breaking book, What Really Happened in Wuhan, became an international bestseller, and her Sky News documentary of the same name, has been viewed more than 13 million times.

Markson has received 16 prestigious journalism awards including two Walkley Awards, five Kennedy Awards and has twice been awarded the Sir Keith Murdoch Journalist of the Year for excellence in journalism.

Proud of her Jewish heritage, Markson has regularly stood up against antisemitism in the media and in politics and has defended the community from biased attacks.

The theme of the gala appeal this year is “Israel through the eyes of Australia”. Funds raised will go toward WIZO’s Youth Village Appeal with emphasis on supporting the five youth villages in Israel which are home to over 5500 individuals, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

To continue to provide these vital support services for Israeli society, WIZO relies on support from donors in order to create a brighter future for those in need.

“I’m looking forward to speaking at this year’s WIZO gala in Melbourne to spotlight the efforts of the organisation across its Youth Villages,” said Markson.

“As a mother of two I’m proud to support a cause that champions the future of Jewish and Israeli children across the state by providing educational and social services to the families who need it most.”

Victorian president of WIZO Victoria Ronit Chrapot commented, “WIZO Victoria is very proud and excited to host such a powerful, successful woman as Sharri Markson and introduce her to a Melbourne audience. We look forward to her speaking about relevant issues regarding Australia and Israel that are of broader interest.”

WIZO Victoria’s 2023 gala will take place on Wednesday, August 30 at 7pm. Tickets: wizovic.org.au/gala
