Maru Teferi set a new Israeli record when winning the men’s 2022 Fukuoka Marathon on December 4 in Japan, in 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 43 seconds.

That beat the previous record the 30-year-old set in February in the Seville Marathon, by 15 seconds.

“This is my biggest win in my career,” Teferi – who won silver at the 2022 European Championships in August – proudly wrote on Instagram.

Australia’s Brett Robinson came fourth in 2:07.31, breaking an Australian record set in 1986 by Robert de Castella.

In Tokyo last year, Teferi and his wife Salem became the first Israeli married couple to become Olympians.
