Israeli wins silver at taekwondo worlds in Mexico
Israeli taekwondo athlete Dana Azran, 21, won a silver medal at the 2022 Taekwondo World Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico, marking Israel’s second medal ever at the worlds.
Azran competed in the women’s over-73kg category, losing the final 2-1 to Uzbekistan’s Svetlana Osipova.
Earlier, Azran posted impressive wins over opponents from the Ivory Coast, France, Mexico and Germany.
The first Israeli to earn a world championships medal in taekwondo was Ilan Goldschmidt, who won a bronze medal back in 2005.
Last year, taekwondo athlete Avishag Semberg,19, made history when she won the bronze medal in the women’s -49kg category in the Tokyo Olympics.
