It is a hub for the community
Every week there are captivating Jewish topics that can enrich your knowledge like never before.
The Lamm Jewish Library of Australia (LJLA) has the largest collection of Hebrew books, more than 44,000, in the southern hemisphere.
As a comprehensive national resource centre, it offers an exceptional array of lectures, workshops and events that provide the community with direct access to distinguished academics, experts and speakers.
Every week there are captivating Jewish topics that can enrich your knowledge like never before. LJLA fosters a deep connection with Jewish identity.
A diverse array of events celebrating Jewish texts, spirituality, tradition and literature help explore and celebrate what it means to be Jewish.
Knowing about the past can help shape the future. The library holds a treasure trove of community memories.
It is home to one of the largest collections of historical community literary items, with some dating back more than a century.
From children’s playtime and story time events, mothers’ groups and book clubs, to health, wellbeing and educational programs for seniors, there is something for all ages and life stages.
To continue its mission, LJLA depends on the generosity of donors. This support helps expand its offerings to better serve the community.
Dr Merav Carmeli, library director, said, “Join us in preserving the beauty and wonder of the Lamm Jewish Library of Australia, where knowledge and culture come to life.”
At the time of going to press the library had raised 95 per cent of its target and is still open for donations.
There are several long-term programs that the library continues to facilitate and participate in.
The Write Your Story program has been operating for around 20 years, producing more than 150 memoirs and three anthologies.
LJLA’s interfaith work as part of the Connecting Cultures program continues each year, with non-Jewish school students visiting the library to help build their cultural understanding of our community.
