It seems too good to be true, but it is
After a 2021 postponement, CLOC's production of Jersey Boys is finally hitting the stage this week. The AJN spoke to choreographer Kirra Sibel about the production.

Four men. Four stories. Four seasons. Dozens of hits, chart toppers and songs in the top 100. More than 175 million records sold. And undeniably catchy tunes.
Whether it’s Big Girls Don’t Cry, Can’t Take My Eyes off You or Walk Like A Man, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons have made a huge impact on pop culture.
The musical Jersey Boys brings their story to life, documenting the formation, success and eventual break-up of The Four Seasons. After being postponed during Melbourne’s 2021 COVID-19 lockdown, the musical is finally back this week at the National Theatre, St Kilda brought to you by CLOC Theatre Company.
For choreographer Kirra Sibel, it’s an honour and privilege to bring the story to life.
“I love being able to explore my creativity as a choreographer. The fun of visualising the movement and patterns and how they will integrate with the cast, their characters and the set around them,” she told The AJN.
“What is really special about this production of Jersey Boys is the innovative set design and the brilliant cast that complement it and bring it to life.
“It has been such a privilege working with Richard Perdriau (the director) to help him bring his vision to life.”
Sibel has always loved dancing. After performing in all of the musicals and vocal soirees at The King David School, she continued with Centrestage Performing Arts School and then studied teaching at university. She got her first teaching role at Mount Scopus Memorial College.
“Choreography was something I sort of fell into when I saw the position of production choreographer at Mount Scopus in an advertisement,” Sibel explained.
“I had so much fun working with the production team and students, creating choreography to suit the students and themes of the production.
“I was asked back for the following year and from there I began working more and more as a choreographer for various companies.”
Sibel said she’s very excited for everyone to finally see what the CLOC Theatre team has been working on.
“The best part is when I see it all come together on the stage. From visualising what the choreography would look like in my lounge room to seeing it on the stage with the sets, costumes and lighting is so rewarding,” she said.
“This production has been in the works for two years and to see it finally all come together is truly something special and exciting.”
Jersey Boys is at the National Theatre, St Kilda from May 13-28. For tickets: cloc.org.au
