Jackas receive a painful footy lesson

AJAX suffered its second loss of the season when it was trounced by Caulfield Grammarians 10.5 (65) to 24.15 (159) on Saturday. The injury count for the Jackas has continued to mount, with talented youngster Josh Sacks suffering a possible shoulder injury. The Jackas dominated for the majority of the first quarter, with single goals going to David Fayman, Corey Jankie, Ben Kalmus and Sam Chester. However, the defensive pressure imposed by Caulfield Grammar was intense and during time-on they scored three goals to take a narrow lead into quarter-time. In the second quarter, the Jackas became less competitive and allowed Caulfield Grammar to win the quarter by 27 points.
Despite a bright start to the third quarter, Caulfield Grammar again got on top. And it got worse in the final stanza, with AJAX being outscored 9.5 to one behind. Kalmus booted four goals in an inspired display and David Fayman booted three, while Gary Blieden was again tough around the packs.
Nevertheless, the Jackas are still equal second and look forward to the return in two weeks time of Ari Lewski, and Jason Israelsohn, while promising youngster Daniel Werzberger will make his debut for the club. The reserves had a similar story to the seniors, after Caulfield Grammar defeated them by 72 points 7.7(49) to 19.7(121). 
The only club team to sing the club song this week was the Under 19. After leading by only two points at the final break, the team scored seven final quarter goals to defeat 3rd placed Old Mentonians to retain their unbeaten record.¬†No matches will be held Queen’s Birthday weekend and resumes after the break with AJAX seniors and reserves hosting Mazenod while the Under 19 will face their toughest test against Hampton Rovers.
