JCA hosts first 10×10 event in three years
"With every minute that passes, we are making history."
OVER 120 people gathered at The Urban Winery on October 23 to hear three JCA organisations pitch their programs for purpose. Facilitated by Michael Pollak and Leah Reid, 10×10 committee members and moderated by Dragon Dr Andy Kuper, the competition was tough.
Rada Pantzer from JewishCare highlighted the importance of the men’s post-separation support group. The first of its kind in the Jewish community, the group creates a peer support network guided by therapists and counsellors. A participant from the group also joined Pantzer expressing how the group impacted him – making his future a better place.
The Sydney Jewish Museum, represented by Roslyn Sugarman, proposed an outstanding competition for photographers to document the current history of the community, including special events, chagim, and simchas so that there is a communal record for the future.
“With every minute that passes, we are making history,” said Sugarman.
Stand Up highlighted the need to work together with First Nations people, sharing experiences and stories of our lived experiences. General manager for Stand Up in Sydney Speedy Shatari passionately explained how bringing people together in homes in an environment conducive to conversation and understanding would make inroads into healing for both communities.
Once guests had pledged their support there were three winners, with each organisation taking away funding for their programs. JewishCare received $6500, Sydney Jewish Museum $2550 and Stand Up $2900.
The next event will take place in the New Year.
