SYDNEY sisters Jessica and Noemie Fox completed their last event of the year – the 2021 Canoe Slalom World Championships – with mixed results in Bratislava last weekend.

Jessica (pictured) – who at the Tokyo Olympics won gold in the women’s canoe and bronze in the kayak – missed out on making the finals in both disciplines due to 50-second penalties for gate violations.

But the 27-year-old departed the challenging Bratislava whitewater course with a surprise world championship gold medal win in the relatively new discipline of extreme slalom, which will make its Olympics debut in Paris in 2024.

It was only her third international race in extreme, which involves four paddlers racing at a time after launching off a 2-metre high ramp.

“I’ve had an amazing season, so this is a great way to finish,” said Jessica.

Noemie, 24, also bowed out in the kayak semis, but qualified for the canoe final, where she nailed a PB time of 104.49 seconds in an error-free paddle to finish sixth overall – her best ever result.
