Jewish Australian Jessica Fox was officially crowned the 2022 women’s single kayak (K1) World Cup series champion last weekend in Spain, despite missing out on making the final of the fifth and final round on the very challenging La Seu whitewater course.

Fox’s four straight K1 finals wins in the Czech Republic, Poland, France, and Slovenia proved enough for her to reach 304 series points, ahead of Great Britain’s Mallory Franklin (217) and Czech Tereza Fiserova (214).

“It’s been an amazing season,” Fox, 28, said. “I would have loved to be in the mix for that final, but I’m very proud of this season, and thrilled to take the overall [title].”

In the women’s single canoe, Fox missed out on a top three World Cup series placing, after making a big error at the bottom of the course at La Seu in the C1 final, that cost her 50 seconds in penalties.

She came 10th in that final, to finish in sixth place in the C1 series, won by Fiserova.

Fox’s younger sister, Noemie, placed 14th in the C1 World Cup series.
