BOOK Chats, created by Melbourne Jewish Book Week (MJBW), is a program that was developed last year in response to the COVID-19 lockdown when many authors lost the opportunity to promote their works due to the mass cancellation of events.

The online space for writers to unpack and explore their latest titles is now home to 37 recorded video interviews which form an enduring archive of diverse contemporary Jewish literature.

There are six seasons of Book Chats in the archive, with the first two seasons released in December 2020 and January 2021, featuring authors who were set to be part of MJBW 2020 festival.

The MJBW team has just released its sixth season, which it describes as covering “engrossing responses to the catastrophic consequences of climate change, and discussions on love and deception in closed communities, the intrigue involved in time travel, thrillers, pandemics and the resilience of the human spirit”.

To create this collection, MJBW invited a diverse group of readers from their committee and the Jewish and wider community to pose questions to the authors, who were invited to showcase their new books and answer questions.

“The response to these interviews, from readers, writers and publishers, has been very positive and MJBW intends to continue to build this valuable archive with ongoing book chats in 2022,” MJBW noted.

MJBW thanked the generous supporters of this program including the Besen Family Foundation, Sandy and Phillip Benjamin, Dr Mark and Alla Medownick, Joe and Rose Reich and The AJN.
