Jewish Care assists Scopus over inappropriate conduct claims
Teacher at centre of allegations has left school
Mount Scopus Memorial College informed members of the school community this afternoon (Wednesday) that an official from Jewish Care has agreed to receive reports from current and former students regarding any inappropriate conduct they may have experienced or witnessed
As reported last week, the school was recently alerted to a number of allegations of inappropriate conduct by a member of staff who has ceased working there.
Commending those who had so far come forward, the college noted that “some people might prefer to report to a person unconnected with the school”.
The letter continued, “We can advise that Marilyn Kraner, Manager Individual and Family Services at Jewish Care, has kindly agreed to receive reports.”
The school went on to stress, “Reports received will be treated sensitively and will be referred to the relevant authorities and, with the consent of the individual making the report, to an independent investigator.”
The letter added, “The additional disclosures received in recent days describe conduct that is clearly in breach of the College’s Child Protection Policy.
“It is apparent that the former students who have come forward did not feel comfortable reporting inappropriate conduct at the time. The College is deeply sorry that this was the experience of these students.
“We will strive to ensure that students always feel empowered and encouraged to report any inappropriate conduct connected with the College and we will be commissioning an external review of our Child Protection policies and procedures for all areas of the school, including the Informal Education Department.”
The school concluded, “We remain committed to ensuring the safest possible environment for our students.”
