WITH the devastating bushfires that have ravaged the country in recent weeks, JNF Australia has pledged that 50 per cent of the funds raised during its annual Green Sunday appeal will be directed to supporting wildlife and nature recovery efforts.

In a joint project with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), funds will be distributed through the WWF Restoration Support Program. JNF Victoria’s Green Sunday appeal will be held this Sunday, February 16, while NSW and WA’s appeal was held last Sunday (February 9).

The aims of the program will be to restore the ecological structure and function of core areas across eastern Australia, protecting and enhancing forest corridors to enable movement and recovery of koalas and other native animals, and strengthening the health and value of habitat in unburnt regions while helping to protect these areas from future fire.

The other 50 per cent of the funds raised via the Victorian campaign will be directed towards the establishment of a community garden for children with disabilities and their families in Israel’s south.

HaBayit LaMishpachot (Home for Families) is a community centre located in Dimona, providing essential services for children with disabilities and their families. It acts as a haven for all members of the family where they can work together with professionals in the field of disabilities.

“Once completed, HaBayit LaMishpachot will truly serve as a place that provides support and enhances the sense of partnership and belonging, all in order to improve the quality of life of the child and their family,” JNF Victoria president Ronit Fraid said.

JNF Victoria Green Sunday chairperson Belinda El Boher added, “This is a significant year for JNF, as we are not only continuing to improve the quality of life for families in Israel, but we are equally supporting our much needed local relief ecological relief efforts right here in Australia.”
