Junior footy is back in action, with round one of the SMJFL getting under way on April 23.

AJAX Junior Footy Club (JFC) president, Jamie Davis, said, “With a record 630 registered junior players, including about 80 girls, there were smiles all round for AJAX juniors on Sunday, and Princes Park was buzzing with excitement.

“This year, our club has 27 teams, including three girl’s teams.

“AJAX is such an important part of the lives of many families in our community, and our club has never been so strong.”

The Auskick players had heaps of fun on the field.

And the first round results for the Jewish club’s U11s to U18s were excellent overall, with all three girls’ team posting very big wins, and nine of the 14 boys’ teams winning.

The biggest win by a boys’ team was a 91-point victory by the U11 Stars against Waverley Park, while the closest win was by one point, by the U18 Comets (8.11 59), also over Waverley Park (8.10 58).

A few days earlier, at AJAX JFC’s final pre-season training sessions, special guest, Melbourne AFLW star Eliza McNamara, joined coaches to present the U9 players with their 2023 AJAX jerseys, which was very exciting for all.

A Yom Hashoah commemoration was also held, with players from U12, U14 and U16 teams, making presentations about their families’ experiences of the Holocaust.
