A PHOTO of teenage girls silhouetted against the beach at Portsea during Bnei Akiva’s summer camp is the winning entry in The AJN’s annual holiday photo competition.

The photo was entered by Michelle Sobel of Caulfield, who was in the fortunate position of having two entries among this year’s finalists.

She wins a two-night stay at Hyatt Regency Coolum’s most luxurious accommodation, the Ambassador Club villa, which is situated in an exclusive corner of the spacious resort, complete with its own swimming pool, tennis courts and breakfast club.

“The Portsea photo had my daughter Taryn in it and the other entry was of my sister Yael (Rothschild) rugged up on the beach at Frankston,” she said.

Taryn, 17, is a Year 12 student at Mount Scopus Memorial College and took the photo while at the Zionist youth camp in December.

“After Taryn’s exams are over we will go to the Sunshine Coast and use the prize to enjoy some time together,” said Sobel.

The competition was judged by AJN photographer Peter Haskin, freelance photographer Dan Schmideg and AJN travel editor Danny Gocs, with input from readers who voted in an online poll.

This year the holiday photo competition was divided into two categories and the best sunrise/sunset photo was won by Alex Smith of Bondi, NSW, for a stunning shot of camels walking single-file along Cable Beach, Broome at sunset.

Smith wins a two-night stay at The Sebel Reef House & Spa in Palm Cove, about 20 kilometres north of Cairns. The luxury resort is in a traditional-style Queensland mansion set along the tranquil foreshore in the seaside-village atmosphere of Palm Cove.

There was also a prize for a lucky reader who voted in our online competition for the winning photos. Judy Strauss of Bondi wins a holiday at Peppers Beach Club in Port Douglas, situated in the heart of Port Douglas, just a short stroll from Macrossan Street and Four Mile Beach.
