KA in turmoil

The Kashrut Authority (KA) is in complete turmoil this morning (Friday).

Two of the KA’s four board members have resigned because KA president Baron Revelman released the KA’s responses to the Kashrut Commission of Inquiry (KCI), which examined the state of kashrut in Sydney, without their consent.

KA secretary Chana Warlow-Shill and board member Anthony Greenfield resigned from the board hours after the statement was released.

The AJN understands that both Warlow-Shill and Greenfield stand by the level of kashrut provided by the KA and the decision to resign does not reflect the KA’s status as the leading kosher authority in NSW.

The response, which the board members did not approve for release, rejected the KCI findings and, as per the KCI report, would result in the establishment of a second permanent hechsher in Sydney.

The AJN can reveal it was sent the report on Wednesday night but it wasn’t until Thursday afternoon, when the report was posted online, that the two board members became aware that it was publicly released.

One communal leader told The AJN this morning that nothing is surprising anymore.

“The KCI questioned accountability of a conflict of interest and now they have released their long-awaited response without informing half of their board members,” the communal leader said on the condition of anonymity.

“It’s an unbelievable situation and only solidifies the points of the KCI.”
