Kickstart your metabolic health

Did you know that more than 35 per cent of Australians currently meet the criteria for metabolic syndrome? The team at Lifestyle Breakthrough explains the importance of addressing one's metabolic health.

What is metabolic health?

Factors that can negatively impact on your metabolic health can be poor sleep, stress, lack of movement, poor nutrition, smoking and weight gain.

It’s estimated that more than 35 per cent of Australian adults currently meet the criteria for metabolic syndrome, which can develop as a result of increased blood pressure, blood sugar, waist circumference and cholesterol levels. These risk factors can put you at an increased risk of a heart attack, stroke, diabetes or kidney disease.

Consequently, metabolic syndrome is a group of disorders that can include obesity, increased waist measurement, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

A sedentary lifestyle can often be a primary cause of disorders associated with metabolic syndrome.

For example, the average Australian sits for around 10 hours per day, which increases the risk for metabolic syndrome and other complications such as muscle degeneration, osteoporosis, and grows the risk of developing diabetes, cancer or heart disease by 40 per cent.

Lifestyle Breakthrough offers a kick-start guide to educating and assisting clients to incorporate health-focused changes that can lead to better metabolic health.

In fact, according to the Lifestyle Breakthrough team of medical and health professionals, just 30 minutes of activity a day can bring about vast health benefits, such as lowering of blood pressure, regulating of healthy blood sugar levels, and stronger mental health.
