The assassination of Charlie Kirk

‘Kirk’s call for conversation was met by a bullet’

His Judeo-Christian values saw him defend Israel when necessary and his extensive knowledge of the Bible, even the Talmud.

In a world where we have become so sadly desensitised to unspeakable acts of violence, watching Charlie Kirk’s final moments still shook many to their very core.

The abrupt ending to a young life so full of promise in front of a crowd of 3000 people, the majority students, simply does not make sense. Nor should it.

For over a decade Kirk used his voice to share his conservative views. Not everyone agreed with all of his beliefs – in truth, some were downright problematic – but he did not seem intent on imposing them on anyone. Instead, he welcomed others who did not share his views to come and prove him wrong.

“Prove me wrong”. For years that was his tagline. He would set up a tent at college campuses, drawing huge crowds, and invite students to debate issues with him. He seemed to relish the opportunity to have a conversation with someone who disagreed with him. If it was current and controversial, Kirk was brave enough to debate it.

His Judeo-Christian values saw him defend Israel when necessary and his extensive knowledge of the Bible, even the Talmud, meant he would swiftly shut down any antisemitic smear by exposing an individual’s ignorance or malice.
