AUSTRALIAN Friends of Ariel University (AFAU) board member Danny Lamm attended a prestigious event at Ariel University last week honouring former United States vice-president Michael Pence and former US ambassador to Israel David Friedman.

Lamm, a former Zionist Federation of Australia and Executive Council of Australian Jewry president, joined dignitaries from around the world at the event.

Pence and Friedman were awarded honorary doctorates in recognition of their steadfast contributions and achievements to strengthen the diplomatic relationship between the United States and the State of Israel, most notably the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem.

“The event was truly historic, and the addresses given by both Mike Pence and David Friedman, committing America’s support to all of Israel including Judea and Samaria, was particularly inspiring,” Lamm said.

“Having had this opportunity to witness such strong ties with leaders across the world at the evening’s event, I see great things taking place with Ariel University and we stand committed at the AFAU to strengthen ties between Ariel University and Australia.”

President of Ariel University, Professor Yehuda Schoenfeld, thanked Pence and Friedman for their tireless commitment to the university.

“Due to their dedication, our economic and academic cooperation has increased and has benefited new and ground-breaking research. This is an additional step in bringing Ariel University to the forefront of cutting-edge global research.”

Prior to receiving the award, the former vice-president and his wife, Karen, visited and prayed in Hebron. It is understood that Pence is the most senior international leader to visit Hebron since 1967.

AFAU continues to raise awareness about the outstanding academic, scientific and medical achievements of Ariel University, which is currently the fastest growing university in Israel with over 17,000 students, representing every segment of Israeli society.

The Australian Friends chapter is currently working hand in hand with the university in joint partnerships, most notably in the area of women’s health, in the ground-breaking area of pharmaceuticals and personalised medicine, to support and treat women with needs unmet by the medical system.
