Professor Suzie Navot will be UIA’s special guest on its weekly online Israel Update on Tuesday, August 1.

Prof Navot is a Full Professor of Constitutional Law and Vice President of Research at the Israeli Democracy Institute. She is also a senior commentator for the Israeli media on constitutional and political legal issues and publishes regularly in newspapers and media.

“We are so thrilled to have an expert like Professor Navot share her knowledge and expertise with us,” UIA CEO Yair Miller said.

“As demonstrations and unrest continue to rock Israeli society and the Knesset’s recent passing of legislation to block the High Court in Israel from using the concept of Reasonableness in their deliberations, the focus now shifts to the applications before the court itself to strike out the legislation.

“Professor Navot is uniquely placed to unpack the background to this complex situation, explain what the process will now look like and also comment on some of the broader issues at play surrounding the mass protests and current civil upheaval in Israel.”

Professor Navot holds an LL.B degree (cum laude) from Tel-Aviv University, an MA in Public Policy (cum laude) from Tel-Aviv University and a LL.D from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

She has written books, academic articles and served in several public commissions. She has also been awarded a number of prizes and acknowledgements including the ‘movement for quality in government’ special award; the Zeltner prize for special contribution to the Israeli society in the field of law through research, teaching, public involvement; The Gorni Prize for Constitutional law and the ‘Ometz’ award for special public involvement in the fight against corruption.

UIA’s Israel Updates – which launched in April 2020 – include analysis of the latest events in Israel by Miller and UIA executive directors and Shlichim Daniel Tuksar (Victoria) and Jasmine Malul (NSW), as well as a Q&A with audience members.

“We invite you to join us online for an insightful discussion on the latest Israel news and developments from the comfort of your home or office,” Miller concluded.

UIA Israel Updates occur every Tuesday at 1.30pm AEST and 11.30am AWST on Zoom.
