DAVID Levitz, an up-and-coming star with the indoor roundball, recently returned from a month-long tour of the United Kingdom where he represented the Australia Futsal Association Under-14 team.

As part of the national squad, the Year 8 Bialik College student travelled through Wales, Scotland and England, competing against elite futsal sides, while taking in the tourist sights.

“Our first game was in Wales against the Under-16 team, then in Scotland we played their national champions and a tournament with four local Scottish teams,” Levitz told The AJN upon arrival back in Melbourne.

But 14-year-old Levitz’s best game, and perhaps the team’s as well, was in England against the Manchester City futsal youth, which resulted in a thrilling 6-6 draw with Levitz notching two goals.

“Wales were bigger boys, Scotland was around the same standard of us and England was slightly better,” he said.

The former North Caulfield Junior Football Club player has played futsal for Bialik and attended the Futsal Victorian Academy in Ashwood since 2013.

After last year’s season, Levitz was nominated on the Victorian roster for the National Schools Futsal Competition where he was scouted for the Under-14 national squad.

Made up of players from all around Australia, Levitz said: “It was really interesting because everyone had their own story, but it was a very cohesive team.

“I’d really like to do one more national tour and the goal is to continue with futsal until I’m at least 18.”
