Renowned singer-songwriter Lior is set to perform at Jewish Care’s ninth annual dinner on Wednesday 17 May 2023 at Leonda by the Yarra.

The Aria Award-winning artist is well known for his beautiful voice and songs that radiate truth and sincerity. He recently performed his emotive song, My Grandfather, at Yom Hashoah commemorations in Melbourne.

Lior has collaborated with numerous artists including Nigel Westlake and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and has performed at the world-famous Sydney Opera House.

“Lior is in the middle of his Australian tour and we are extremely lucky to have him perform at our annual dinner which takes place during our milestone 175th Anniversary,” said Vanessa Cohen, director of donor & community relations at Jewish Care.

This year marks the 175th anniversary of when Jewish Care’s founders met at the Rainbow Tavern in Melbourne to support the new Jewish immigrants arriving in Melbourne. At the time, the Jewish community numbered 200 people and 175 years later, the community is almost 50,000 strong.

A Jewish Care representative explained that the annual dinner is an opportunity for the community to celebrate the past and support the future of Jewish Care providing vital services to the disadvantaged in the Jewish and wider community.

Donations received at the dinner will contribute to funding Jewish Care’s social services that receive very little government funding, and will also fund other Jewish Care services for aged care clients and clients with a disability.

The social services that rely on fundraising include: social work support for those experiencing mental health issues, safe and affordable housing for those who are at risk of homelessness, job seeking support and financial aid for those facing financial hardship, and services for those with a disability.

In addition to celebrating philanthropic supporters, this year the very special Leo & Mina Fink Community Service Award will be given to a volunteer who has worked with Jewish Care for 50 years. A life governorship will also be bestowed at the dinner.

Tickets for the annual dinner are available at www.jewishcare.org.au/ad2023, email events@jewishcare.org.au or for further information contact Helen on 8517 5683.
