An unbeaten captain’s knock of 88 off 94 balls by Zak Fleisher – well supported by Benji Gore (45) and Nick Gross (33) – paved the way for a 63-run win for Maccabi-AJAX over the Indigos in A Grade last Sunday.

In reply to 6/189, the Indigos were dismissed for 126, ensuring Maccabi remain on top of the ladder with three rounds to go.

Their star bowler was Bailey Melzak, who removed three top-order batters. Lior Meyerowitz and David Majtis took two wickets each, and wicketkeeper Levi Rosenbaum grabbed four catches and a stumping.

In B Grade, Maccabi-AJAX slumped to seventh spot after a three-wicket loss to Kingston United, so they will need to win their remaining matches, starting this Sunday when they take on last-placed CUCC Kings.

One positive was a superb all-round performance by Coby Felbel, who top-scored with 34 runs, and then took four wickets.

Round 12 was make or break time for the Jewish club’s Third XI, and a thrilling nine-run win against the Melbourne Strikers has kept their slim finals hopes alive.

After losing early wickets cheaply, a 66-run partnership between Jeremy Hoppe (37) and Gilad Lowinger (42) steadied their ship, and they reached 134 all out.

The two Gilads in Maccabi’s bowling attack – Meyerowitz (3/24) and Lowinger (3/27) – then struck with the ball, and despite a late comeback by the Strikers’ tailenders, Maccabi held on to win.
