Maccabi-Hakoah set for big stage

MACCABI-HAKOAH will compete in the first national Australian futsal competition in two decades.

MACCABI-HAKOAH will compete in the first national Australian futsal competition in two decades.

“These are benchmark days in Australian futsal and we are very excited to be a part of it,” Maccabi Futsal Club’s John Myers said.

The Jewish team will play against Dural Warriors and Parramatta Blues from NSW, St Albans Strikers Futsal Club and Inner City Futsal Club from Victoria, and Boomerangs Futsal from the Australian Capital Territory in the six-team F-League that will start next weekend.

“It’s an honour, privilege and accolade to be involved in this first step,” Myers said. “I think the standard is going to be very high and it is going to be a very tough competition.”

The club was chosen to be a part of the new league after it won in the New Zealand National Futsal League earlier this year and it lost the final of

the NSW Super League futsal competition last year.

The competition will also be used to allow the team to compete at an elite level, ahead of the European Maccabi Games in Vienna in June and the next Maccabiah Games in Israel in 2013.
