Maccabi Junior Carnival kicks off in Melbourne
The first national Maccabi Junior Carnival in three years sprung into life in Melbourne last Sunday night

The first national Maccabi Junior Carnival in three years sprung into life in Melbourne last Sunday night, with an opening ceremony at Bialik College, followed by a day of football, volleyball and table tennis, and a fun night of laser tag, tenpin bowling and dodgem car rides.
The Maccabi Victoria-hosted event is bringing together 135 Jewish boys and girls from Victoria, 43 from NSW, 30 from WA and two from QLD, for a week of fun and friendship through sport and social activities, concluding on January 22.
“There has been a great deal of excitement and anticipation for ‘Carni’ 2023 . . . it’s the perfect balance of interstate rivalry and camaraderie,” carnival manager Tali Friede said.
“It was so beautiful to see the bonds being made already between Jewish kids from all over the country – the energy that they all bring creates a most fun-filled, jam-packed and inclusive environment”.
AJN photographer Peter Haskin captured these moments from the first two days of the carnival.
