Last Sunday was momentous for Maccabi NSW Basketball Club, when six of its teams played in the Easts Basketball League’s term 3 junior grand finals, and four became champions.

The Maccabi Jets U10 boys’ team maintained their undefeated record this season, comfortably winning their C division grand final versus the Bondi Lions by 32-13, to get the day off to the best possible start for the club.

Next up were the Maccabi Bulls U10 boys’ team, who had a narrow loss in the Division A decider against the Bondi Lions, but can hold their heads high from their effort this season, in which they had 7 wins and just 2 losses.

Following on, the Maccabi Pacers U12 girls’ side put on a show for their parents and friends watching on, playing well from beginning to end, to win a thrilling grand final by 11-10 over the Golden Hoopsters.

Then the Maccabi Suns U12 boys’ – who did well to qualify for the Division B2 decider, after being promoted up a grade – were outplayed by first-placed BUBBs Blue, falling 16-32.

Next up were the Maccabi Spurs U14 boys’, who in a display of determination and grit, won a tight Division C grand final contest versus Moriah Silver by 33-31, made even more impressive considering they’d been moved up an age group this season.

Finally, the Maccabi Wolfpack U18 boys’ team pulled away late in their close grand final clash against Triple Threat Orange, winning by 57-51.

These great results for Maccabi reflect the growing popularity of junior basketball at the club, which now has more than 450 members.
