Maccabi makes last Athletics Shield round count
The 10th and last Athletics Victoria Shield League round this summer was held at Lakeside last weekend, where Maccabi was represented by 11 athletes.
A solid performance saw Maccabi finish third on the Division 5 ladder, booking its place in the finals on March 5.
The U18 4×100 relay team of Ben Blecher, Gidi Datt, Adam Benson – and female junior sprinter Danielle Axarlis as a super sub – won their race in impressive fashion.
Israeli-born women’s athletes Shanie Landen (56.98 in the 400m) and Ortal Raikhlin (10:45.10 in the 3000m) earned big competition points for Maccabi, as did U16 competitor Skye Edelstein (400m 61.66 in the 400m) and U14 sprinter Blecher (55.85 in the 400m, 12.52 in the 100m, 10.01m in the triple jump).
And Ori Drabkin set yet another 100m PB of 14.20.
In Maccabi’s intra-club competition, with just the final remaining, Blecher is on top on points, followed by David Blecher, Meyer Vorchheimer, Drabkin, and Benson.
