Maccabi move up in shield finals

Maccabi Athletics Club finished second on the Athletics Victoria Shield League’s division 5 ladder after the second and final play-offs round last weekend, thanks to some great efforts from the club’s track and field athletes.

That result, based on consistently strong performances throughout the summer, and a good showing in the play-offs, will likely elevate Maccabi to division 4 next season, to be confirmed by Athletics Victoria.

In play-offs action last Saturday, Keira Donner (pictured, centre) clocked 29.44 seconds in the 16 girls 200m, and 3:08.45 in the 800m.

Mica Ickowicz crossed the finish line in 31.44 in the 14 girls’ 200m, and 2:53.09 in the 800m. Ori Drabkin posted times of 30.84 in the 18 boys’ 200m and 2:51.18 in the 800m. Ben Blecher ran 24.70 in the 16 boys’ 200m, and 2:22.56 in the 800m. And in the field, Ian Revale nailed a distance of 10.56m in the men’s shot put.

The club will have three representatives in the upcoming 2023 national championships in Brisbane – Ben Blecher, Emma de Jong and Shanie Landen.
