Maccabi Rugby Club added the 2022 Barbra Streisand Cup to their trophy cabinet after a hard-fought 7-0 victory over the Sydney Convicts last Saturday afternoon at Christison Park, Vaucluse.

The only points in the latest trial game for Maccabi as the Maccabiah Games approaches came early in the first half, when smart work from a scrum saw player-coach George Davis put Lucas Brown over untouched under the sticks, with inspirational skipper Sam Horwitz adding the extras.

From there, the game would remain scoreless despite some good attacking opportunities for both teams, due to a combination of poor pitch condition, and dogged defence.

The Maccabi defensive line was led by the evergreen Shaun Jankelowitz, named Man of the Match, Brent Paradise and Daniel Soroka.

Aaron Stern was solid as usual in the lineouts, securing possession for his team, and making some good runs.

Maccabi play Lane Cove at Tantallon Oval from 3.15pm this Saturday – a game which should see the long-awaited Maccabi debut for former NSW Waratah David Horwitz, and the return from injury of several other key backs.
