THE Maccabi Tennis Club has honoured its best and brightest stars at its recent Annual General Meeting, recognising the efforts of players at both junior and senior level.

Max Keyser was named the club’s best player among the juniors, after a stellar year in the Super 10’s series, which saw him become one of the best players in the state in his age group.

The most improved award went to Lachlan Corne, whose determination and fighting spirit on and off the court has earned him praise from all at the club.

Ethan Rosmarin took out the sportsmanship award, after he showed great respect for his team-mates, coaches, opponents and umpires in every match he played.

Meanwhile, the senior gong went to the masters team from the Maccabiah Games, which included Maccabi veterans Steve Loeffler, Jeremy Fisher, Paul Erlich, Lance Rosenberg and Bert Rosenberg.

The team brought home six of the nine medals Australia won in the tennis events, including one gold, two silver and three bronze.

Loeffler, who is the club’s director, played and managed the masters team, winning gold in the 35-plus singles event, before teaming with Maccabi vice-president Jeremy Fisher to place second in the doubles.

Lance Rosenberg picked up bronze in the 50-plus event and paired with Erlich to win silver in the doubles, while Rosenberg’s dad Bert won bronze in the 80-plus category.
