Marking Lord Sacks’ yahrzeit

The local component of the event will be hosted by East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation, where the former chief rabbi of the Commonwealth visited in 2012 to mark its 150th anniversary.

MEMBERS of the community are invited to join an international online learning program tonight (Tuesday) to mark the first yahrzeit of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks.

The local component of the event will be hosted by East Melbourne Hebrew Congregation (EMHC), where the former chief rabbi of the Commonwealth visited in 2012 to mark its 150th anniversary.

Speakers will include Rabbi Ralph Genende, general manager of Jewish Life and senior rabbi at Jewish Care; Rabbi Danny Mirvis, deputy CEO of World Mizrachi; Rabbi Shmuel Karnowsky of Elwood Shule; Rabbi Dovid Gutnick of EMHC; and Ella Wilhem from Beth Rivkah Ladies College.

Rabbi Philip Heilbrunn, president of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria, which is partnering in the event, will recite a memorial prayer.

Communities in Conversation: A Day of Worldwide Learning in Memory of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks has been organised by the Rabbi Sacks Legacy Trust.

The event is at 8pm on Tuesday, October 26 at rabbisacks.melbourne.
