Leibler Yavneh College’s production of beloved musical Mary Poppins lit up the stage last week with talented performers and a dazzling set. Over four sold-out performances, the students showcased their months of hard work, captivating audiences.

As the story goes, young Jane and Michael Banks have sent many nannies on their way before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep.

Poppins works her magic and uses common sense to bring the family back together and teach them to appreciate each other. Poppins’ lessons are not just for the children but perhaps even more so for the parents who were focused on work and their social life.

The set was of a very high standard and it was the first year the school used “flying” cast members to add a magical element that left both the cast and audience in awe.

The cast’s emotive vocals brought the iconic songs of Mary Poppins to life, their powerful delivery resonating throughout the theatre. While entertaining choreography and energetic routines complemented the story, creating visually striking moments that added depth and excitement.

Stand out performances included Mary Poppins played by Emily Geller with grace and outstanding vocals, Bert played by Osha Rubenstein-Slesenger with great dramatic effect, Jane Banks played by Jessica Geller and Michael Banks by Asher Glick brought charm and comedy, and their parents George Banks played by Gilad Lowinger and Winifred Banks by Meital Wiseman drew us into the heart of this family.

“This production fostered a strong sense of community, with students from all year levels forming lifelong friendships and gaining invaluable skills. The audience raved about the talent, skill and professionalism, leaving each show on a high.

“An enormous thank you to Katie Weston, our producer and co-music director, and Michelle Swersky, our director and choreographer, for their vision and dedication. Kol hakavod to everyone involved – this was truly a highlight for our entire school community!”
