Masada College Rock Band participated in the annual St Joseph’s Spring Fair Battle of the Bands last month, joining 15 schools to showcase some of the best young talent in the area.

Nerves did not stop the year 7 and 8 Masada students from delivering an impressive performance of crowd favourites We Built This City by Starship and Buddy Holly by Weezer.

The band, led by Mr Neville Kaye, is one of the many ensembles at Masada College. The event, much-anticipated after a two-year COVID hiatus, gave students a world of experience in live performance. The students thoroughly enjoyed playing for a large audience who clapped, danced and sang along.

Head of performing arts at Masada College, Jess Lyons, said the school was “incredibly proud” of the students for representing Masada College at this music event.

“Performing to a large crowd is a nerve-racking experience, yet with the expertise and encouragement from Mr Kaye, they were able to showcase their musical talents and deliver an outstanding performance,” Lyons said.

“At Masada, we recognise the gift of sharing music together and the opportunity and power it has to enrich the lives of not only the performer but that of the wider community.”
