After triumphantly winning a gold medal for Australia at last month’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in what was likely to be the final event in the five-time Paralympian’s distinguished swimming career, Sydney’s Matt Levy earned selection to represent Australia one last time, in last weekend’s Australia versus USA ‘Duel in the Pool’ tournament.

It was also fellow Australian para swimming legend Ellie Cole’s final event.

Thoroughly enjoying one last opportunity to represent the Australian Dolphins, Levy, 35, competed in four events in front of more than 3,000 cheering spectators, and was embraced by his teammates during the post-event presentation.

His best result at the meet – which the USA won overall by just 309 points to 283 – was in the mixed multi-class 4×50 freestyle relay.

Swimming the first leg, he established a lead, which the Aussies maintained to beat the Americans by just under half a second in a thrilling finish.
